Concept
Set in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, the story follows Nadia, a young woman craving her independence, the night before her childhood home is sold. High on mushrooms, Nadia and her friends inadvertently open a portal, plunging Nadia into the dream-plane. Nadia is led even deeper by the ancient figure, The Horned One, keeper of the land and of the water, as she runs away from her duty. In order to return to her body, Nadia must come to terms with her responsibility to her homeland and the water that it protects. Tone was the Production Designer and Costume Designer for The Call of Water. Her concept for the Production Design came from the themes in the film based on the power of nature and nature magical itself. Tone hoped to build a concept of magic through the beauty and intensity of the natural world, and bought that into her spacial design. The emphasis remained on the land and the power that it holds. The Cave was the largest set that had to be constructed for this shoot. It was shot in a preexisting cave, but the water pool had to be added. Tone along with the help of artist and designer, Sally Eckert and John Merims, was able to construct a pool of water in the cave and dress it to match the preexisting interior environment. |
Practical Effects
Tone designed and orchestrated the practical effects of the productions. This included effects to give an impression of melting and roots growing onto the character Nadia. For the root effect, Tone created a root "boot" or base and then added real roots that climbed up the actress' legs. |
